Naomi Hirabayashi and Marah Lidey: Creating Mass Intimacy

In 2016, the term “self-care” hit an all-time high as one of the most searched terms on the internet and it was reported that millennials were spending 1/4 of their disposal income on their wellbeing. But the wellness industry itself is dated. Between the gurus of the 90s and the self-help media category, this vertical has been top-down, pricey and push-based for a long time. So, it’s no surprise that people from that same generation would take the leap and develop a better way for millennials to get wellness solutions that they need. The demand for a peer-to-peer solution around wellbeing drove co-founders Marah Lidey and Naomi Hirabayahsi to come up with the idea for Shine. Shine's first product is a daily text message service available on SMS, Facebook Messenger, and Kik to help millennials track and improve their wellbeing. Shine has secured over 2.5 million in venture funding, scaled to over half a million users in its first year, and is now entering a new frontier: audio. Their talk will focus on their journey building the go-to wellbeing platform for today's generation and of the changing landscape of wellness.

Joanna Griffiths: Leveraging Customer Centric Design to Win Faster

A conversation with her mom, a doctor and mother of four, inspired Joanna to start Knix Wear. It was then that she discovered that 1 in 3 women experience the occasional light leak and realized that women’s underwear just wasn’t cutting it and that women everywhere deserved an underwear upgrade. In her Lightning Talk, Joanna will explain how taking a customer centric approach to prototyping, product design and marketing can accelerate your growth.
